Further training in paediatric intensive care (DKG)

State-of-the-art surgical and interventional procedures, therapies and medical equipment require the nursing staff to have the latest knowledge. Knowledge, skills and abilities must be constantly expanded and newly acquired. In order to meet this demand and to qualify its own staff for the daily, demanding work in intensive care and anaesthesia, the German Heart Centre Munich annually offers its staff the opportunity to participate in further training in paediatric intensive care and anaesthesia nursing in accordance with the guidelines of the German Hospital Federation. Practical instructors ensure the transfer of theory to practice and strengthen the participants in their nursing skills.

The further training is part-time. It lasts at least two years and is divided into a theoretical and a practical part with corresponding module examinations, practical performance tests as well as a practical and oral final examination. Theoretical continuing education comprises at least 720 hours, practical continuing education at least 1800 hours.

The theoretical teaching is carried out by the German Heart Centre as a further training institution. Participants in the specialist further training have an external assignment of 500 hours in neonatology. Another 500 hours are completed in the anaesthetic department at the DHM. Optionally, the participants of the further training can carry out an assignment of their choice.

For the application for further training, we need:

  • Letter of application
  • Current curriculum vitae
  • Certificate of the final examination of the training
  • Certificate for the use of the professional title
