Taking small tissue samples (biopsy) from the heart muscle for laboratory chemistry and microscopic examination purposes. Usually, a catheter with tiny forceps is inserted into the right ventricle of the heart via a jugular vein. Among other things, it is used to detect rejection reactions after heart transplantation, for heart muscle inflammation and to confirm the diagnosis of heart tumours.
