Cardiac insufficiency is due either to a pathological pumping weakness or to a reduced blood filling of the heart and leads to a reduced blood supply (oxygen and nutrient supply) to the organs. Heart failure can affect predominantly the left or right side of the heart, or both sides equally, and can be acute or chronic.
