General information

After your admission to our department, you will be admitted to one of our nursing wards (ward 1.2 or ward 1.4). A member of the nursing team will welcome you, show you to your room and be your first point of contact. The wards have bright and modernly equipped rooms. Each room has a separate bathroom with washbasin, shower and WC. Of course, all rooms are equipped with telephone, TV and radio. For patients who do not want to do without increased comfort (e.g. accommodation of a companion) even during a stay in hospital, the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery offers a suite with two separate rooms on ward 1.2 and four luxurious and spacious patient suites on ward 1.4. A corresponding surcharge will be levied for this service.

As part of the preparation for the operation, the ward physicians and nursing staff will take a physical examination including blood tests on the day of admission and complete any outstanding examinations. Special emphasis is placed on the pre-operative informative discussion with your surgeon and the anaesthetist. This usually takes place in the afternoon before the procedure. Immediately after the operation, you will be taken to our intensive care unit. When you have recovered sufficiently from the procedure, you will return to our nursing ward. What happens after your stay in our hospital is individually tailored to your needs.

Our physiotherapy team will help you with the “first steps” after the operation. What happens after your stay at our hospital, whether you are transferred back to your referring hospital or take advantage of follow-up treatment (rehabilitation), is individually tailored to your needs. Before discharge from our hospital, all patients undergo an ultrasound examination of the heart, an X-ray and a laboratory test. We are happy to answer all your questions!
