INSURE – Institute for Translational Cardiac Surgery

The Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at the German Heart Centre Munich carries out state-of-the-art high-tech research for the benefit of patients. The INSURE Institute for Translational Cardiac Surgery brings together all of the clinical and basic research-focused scientific activities of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at the German Heart Centre Munich. The translational idea – “bench to bedside” – is at the forefront of the scientific work. This work includes basic cell and molecular biology research, preclinical testing and translation through early and guideline-relevant clinical trials into everyday routine.

The link between clinically focused basic research with the development of new therapeutic approaches and successful translation into clinical application requires intensive interaction between basic scientists and physicians who are actively involved with clinical care. By uniting basic cardiac surgery science and clinical research on acquired and congenital heart defects, an interactive platform has been created for this under the umbrella of INSURE.

As an institute at the German Heart Centre Munich, INSURE offers you a comprehensive insight into the Clinical Research into Acquired Heart Defects, Clinical Research into Congenital Heart Defects and Experimental Research departments at our hospital. Our employees value INSURE as a social and modern employer under the umbrella of the German Heart Centre Munich.

We offer interested students the opportunity to gain insight into clinical and experimental research in cardiovascular surgery as part of our young interdisciplinary team at any time, but also to carry out smaller, self-contained research projects.

This takes place within the framework of

  • internships, clinical traineeships
  • voluntary year
  • semester, diploma theses
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s theses
  • Doctoral qualifications

The Department of Cardiovascular Surgery as an employer

Due to the high number of cases and our own intensive care units, both the training numbers and the training times for intensive care and normal wards can be achieved effectively within the framework of common trunk surgery. A further training authorisation is available for general surgery and cardiac surgery. There is also the possibility of additional training in intensive care medicine.
