Emergency: Aortic dissection

Aortic dissection is an absolute emergency. A dissection means that a tear occurs in the innermost layer of a vessel and blood burrows through the layers of the vessel. In the worst case, this leads to a rupture of the vessel or to consequential damage caused, for example, by reduced blood flow. Depending on the location of the dissection, surgery must be performed immediately. In the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, specialists are available around the clock to ensure the surgical care of patients with a dissection.
